Protecting your money when travelling with your Visa Debit Card

Things to do before you travel

Make sure your payment notifications are switched on

You will have been automatically opted into the notifications service.

If you have opted out of the notifications service, we recommend that you turn this back on while travelling. This will mean you receive SMS message alerts every time your Visa debit card is used. This will help you to identify any fraudulent activity on your card and take immediate action.

Confirm your contact details are up to date

Ensure you always notify us of any changes to your contact details. If you will be using a different mobile number while you are travelling it is important to let us know so you will continue to:

  • Receive card transaction notifications.
  • Be contactable if we believe a transaction is suspicious.

Remember your Visa security memorable information

We always work towards keeping your money safe. Our Visa debit card provider uses sophisticated technology to continuously monitor account activity. Where their systems flag a suspicious payment, they may block your Visa card and notify you via SMS message.

To request the removal of the block on your Visa debit card or to confirm the fraud attempt, use the contact details provided below. If you call outside our office opening times your call will go directly through to our Visa provider, who will ask you your Visa security questions to verify your identity, therefore it is important to be familiar with these.

Other things to consider before you leave

  • Check that you have activated the debit card you intend to use while travelling and that you know the PIN.
  • Ensure your debit card isn’t due to expire.
  • Check there are sufficient available funds in the focus account that your debit card is linked to. (i.e. if you have a USD card it will be linked to your USD account). You can arrange a foreign exchange online if required.
  • If you intend to use your card for online purchases while travelling, make sure you have not blocked the card for regional online transactions in the country you are visiting.
