The trust industry dates back to the early 19th century and requires a professional and thoughtful approach for these complex vehicles to be valid and useful. But have the original intentions of trusts become lost in the mists of time? Are they still fit for purpose in the modern day?

During the webinar discussion, Mary and Marcus covered the basics of a trust and the benefits these vehicles bring to families looking to preserve their wealth over generations, as well as provide scenarios where there are practical applications for trusts. We will also sought to flag what other wealth structures are available, which may be more suitable for private clients depending on their individual circumstances.

Our Nedgroup Trust hosts also talked through the typical process a client experiences when seeking to set up a trust. This included what concerns they often raise and how the team uses its experience to alleviate any apprehensions, while highlighting the long-term, and sometimes unforeseen, advantages of wealth structuring.

Mary Humphreys

Mary Humphreys

Mary joined Nedgroup Trust in 2020 as a senior trust manager. She has been in the industry for 16 years, having started her career at KPMG. She has progressed through the ranks from assistant administrator through to senior trust manager, and now runs her own complex portfolio of clients. Mary also publishes a wide variety of articles.

 

She completed her STEP Diploma in 2012 and went on to gain recognition by attaining the STEP Certificate in Foundation Law and the STEP Advanced Certificate in Trust Disputes, both of which she passed with distinctions.

Marcus Prevel

Marcus Prevel

Marcus joined Nedgroup Trust in 2001 and has 28 years of experience in the management of private client wealth, including 12 years at a major private bank providing a diverse range of banking, investment and estate planning services.

 

With Nedgroup Trust, Marcus has focused on the provision of trust and related services, assisting private clients resident in many jurisdictions. He has specialist knowledge of the South African markets, having worked closely with clients there since 2001.

 

Marcus has been a director of Nedgroup Trust since 2013 and is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
