Our Social Responsibility
Supporting projects that help reduce the impact we have on the environment
We recognise the impact that we have on the communities in which we operate and are taking action to help ensure a sustainable future. In 2020 we signed up to a partnership with Ecologi – a social enterprise which plants trees and invests in environmental initiatives around the world to help combat climate change. We offset more than our collective carbon footprint, making all our staff carbon positive. This includes emissions from our homes, personal travel, holidays, food, hobbies and more.

Our history
Charting our heritage back to 1834
We are proud of our international heritage and proud to have been part of the community of the Isle of Man since 1987, Jersey since 1994, London since 1998 and Dubai since 2011. The Netherlands Bank of South Africa changes its name to Nedbank
Old Mutual becomes the major shareholder (53%) of Nedbank

The bank is established in the Isle of Man

The trust company is established in Guernsey as Fairbairn Reeds Trust

A Jersey office is opened for the bank and trust company, named Copthall Trust

Fairbairn Reeds Trust rebrands to Fairbairn Trust Company

Robert Fleming (Isle of Man/Jersey) Ltd restructured as Fleming Offshore, and the trust company rebranded as Fleming (Jersey) Trustees Limited
Fleming Offshore is acquired by Chase Manhattan, who subsequently merge with JPMorgan

Rebrand to Gerrard Private bank

Fleming Offshore is sold by JPMorgan Chase to a joint venture between Old Mutual/Nedbank Group and rebrands to Gerrard Private Bank
“A” credit rating
2002
We are the first British offshore island bank to receive independent “A” credit rating (A3/P2 Moody’s)
Rebrand to Fairbairn Private Bank and Fairbairn Trust Limited
2004
Gerrard Stockbrokers is sold to Barclays and Gerrard Private Bank rebrands to Fairbairn Private Bank and Fairbairn Trust Limited
UK branch opens

We are the first British offshore island bank to open a branch in the UK (London)
100% Nedbank ownership

Nedbank buys Old Mutual’s holding in Fairbairn Private Bank, Fairbairn Trust Company and Fairbairn Trust Limited – now 100% owned by Nedbank
Middle East office opens

The bank and trust company open a joint Middle East office in the United Arab Emirates
