Local event highlights the importance and impact of philanthropic giving
An event highlighting the importance and impact of philanthropic giving was held on Wednesday 19 October at Government House in Onchan, Isle of Man. Hosted by His Excellency Lieutenant General Sir John Lorimer and Lady Lorimer, the event was supported by Nedbank Private Wealth in partnership with Philanthropy Impact.
The evening opened with an introduction to the Philanthropy Impact organisation by director Zofia Sochanik. This was followed by a lively panel discussion chaired by John Pepin, chief executive of Philanthropy Impact.
The discussion panel included local philanthropists and charity sector specialists Hugh Davidson, Dr John C Taylor OBE and Bob Jeavons, along with Stuart Cummins and Rebecca Cretney from Nedbank Private Wealth and Zofia Sochanik from Philanthropy Impact.
The evening also included a presentation by Bob Jeavons, chairman of Manx BirdLife, who spoke about the charity’s Point of Ayre Reserve project.
Stuart Cummins, chief executive at Nedbank Private Wealth, thanked everyone for attending what was an enlightening and inspiring evening before guests had the opportunity to meet the visiting speakers over drinks and canapés. The hope is to organise future events to keep the conversation and discussion going with like-minded individuals who wish to share the learnings and experiences of their philanthropic journeys.
“It is in the spirit of facilitating understanding, discussion and debate that we were so pleased to support this event with our partners at Philanthropy Impact,” said Stuart.
“The Isle of Man has a long history of philanthropy. One noteworthy example being Isle of Man resident Sir William Hillary, who founded the Royal National Lifeboat Institute in 1824. This noble philanthropic act has saved countless lives and clearly demonstrates what good can be done when we commit to having a positive impact on the world around us.”
